As a direct result of the World Health Organization (WHO) declaring a pandemic for the Corona Virus (COVID-19) Peguis First Nation is declaring a State of Emergency. Peguis First Nation Chief and Council declare under the by-laws of Peguis First Nation a health emergency providing them with authority to limit freedom of movement, assembly and entry into Peguis First Nation. Working in collaboration with Fisher River Cree Nation and Kinonjeoshtegon First Nation, our top priority is the safety and well-being of all members and ensure we are taking every action to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our communities.
As part of emergency plans for Peguis First Nation we have collaborated with Fisher River Cree Nation and Kinonjeoshtegon First Nation to establish Emergency Road Check Stop points entering into Peguis First Nation and Fisher River Cree Nation entry’s.
Peguis First Nation’s Pandemic Planning Team are working at full capacity to assure the health and safety of all community members. All practical steps will be undertaken to flatten the curve’ and reduce the spread of COVID-19 on our community and maintain our health care system.
Peguis First Nation demands the Federal Government immediately provide the necessary support pursuant to its Treaty obligations to stop the spread of COVID-19 in our community. Canada has a legal duty under its Treaty obligations to protect the health and welfare of the people of Peguis First Nation.
Peguis Chief and Council
