PEGUIS EMERGENCY FLOOD NOTICE

Sunday, May 8, 2022

Peguis Chief and Council are issuing a flood warning this week due to the rain forecast over the next few days. We are expecting flooding to re-occur in areas where the water levels have receded. EMO is forecasting local water levels reaching 1 foot higher than what we experienced.

Households that experience septic issues are recommended to evacuate as the Peguis Lagoon is not accessible. A Mandatory Evacuation is still in effect of all residents in Peguis 1B, ALL EVACUEES MUST BE REGISTERED first with Peguis Emergency Operations Centre (Peguis Multiplex or (204) 645-2869) before leaving the community.

Tiger Damn and sandbagging efforts are currently focussing in the central/northern part of the community, as that is where the water level is the highest. Crews are also beginning to reinforce barriers of homes currently sandbagged or with a Tiger Damn.

EMPLOYMENT: Flood Wages Increased to $20/hour for local Peguis flood workers, 16 to 18 year old’s require a guardians permission. Rubber boots required, hip waders preferred. Workers will be provided food at Peguis Multiplex. Employment Call Out for
