PEGUIS FIRST NATION ACQUIRES LAND IN TREATY 1 TERRITORY
Winnipeg, Manitoba – Peguis has acquired land in the City of Winnipeg as part of the Peguis
First Nation’s Comprehensive Community Plan.
“We are pleased to announce Peguis First Nation has purchased the land and building at 1075
Portage Avenue, which was negotiated by one of our own First Nation members and real estate agent,
Elaine Cowan”, says former Chief Glenn Hudson.
The land covers 3.5 acres in the heart of Winnipeg and has approximately 69,000 square feet. The
overall goal is to renovate the facility to create office space, which will be occupied by many of the
community’s organizations as well as other First Nation companies.
“Today is momentous step of repatriation to our traditional lands in Treaty 1 Territory” added former Chief
Hudson. “The facility, which will be managed by Chief Peguis Investment Corporation, is a
tremendous asset for our community and will generate our own source revenue for years to come.”
Peguis First Nation identified the need to develop a strategy to help improve the community for its
members and the future generations. The Comprehensive Community Plan will help guide Peguis in
the right direction. Developed by the leadership, members and youth, the plan will be fundamental to
bring the Vision for Peguis into reality.
