Peguis First Nation – The community of Peguis First Nation mourns the loss of Louis Stevenson who served as Chief for 26 years from 1981 – 2007. He passed away at 64 years old following an illness. As a leader, Louis Stevenson was well known for fighting for First Nations treaty rights and raising awareness of our struggles.
Louis was a strong advocate for human rights and helped raise international awareness for First Nations issues by bringing South African diplomats to view the conditions of the Peguis community.
