Peguis First Nation Phase 2 of Reopening
In Effect Starting June 2, 2020
1) Check Point Restrictions: Curfew time is extended to 12:00 am – 6:00 am beginning June 1, 2020.
2) Travel Ban: Time limits will be adjusted for members that plan on travelling outside the community for non-essential healthcare appointments or recreational activities. Any members travelling to restricted areas or high-risk areas must self-isolate for 14 days. Travel to Winnipeg is allowed, except for restricted areas within the city.
– Restricted Areas: Hospitals, walk in clinics, and malls within Winnipeg, cities of Dauphin and Brandon
– High-Risk Areas: Portage la Prairie and cities along Highway #1
Overnight travel is allowed. Members are asked to practice safety protocols while outside the community.
3) Medical Travel – Essential and non-essential medical travel is allowed. Please contact Medical Transportation Services for arrangements. Guidelines for self-isolation will be provided to members travelling on their own.
– Members can utilize the Medical Transportation Services and will not be required to self-isolate for 14 days.
– Members that choose to travel to medical appointments on their own, will have to self-isolate for 14 days if they travel to restricted or high-risk areas.
Members are recommended to carry a COVID-19 travel kit including homemade face masks, gloves and hand sanitizer. Masks are required to be worn at certain stores within Winnipeg.
4) Recreational Campers and Fishers: Campers and fishers WILL HAVE ACCESS through the Check Points for recreational campers and fishers. There is a NO STOPPING and NO CONTACT order for campers and fishers while travelling through our communities.
Dallas General Store does have curb side pick-up available for visitors, please call ahead to place orders.
5) Cottage/Cabin Access: Cottage owners will be provided access at Peguis First Nation Check Points. There is a NO STOPPING and NO CONTACT order for cottage owners while travelling through our communities.

6) Peguis School Board Camp: Open to members for family day visits or camping. To book, please call the Peguis School Board at (204) 645-2648.
7) Deliveries: Deliveries of non-essential goods from outside the community will be permitted. For clearance, please call the COVID-19 Hotline at (204) 645-2869 or (204) 645-4738.
8) Mantago Lake: Open for recreational camping and fishing.
9) Ceremonies: Guidelines for Ceremonies during COVID-19; Reviewed and Approved by Traditional Elders as of May 21, 2020
The Lodge keepers will require support and assistance in meeting the above guidelines for Traditional Ceremonies’ During COVID-19. The Agency will provide support that consist of:
- a. Hand Washing Stations-rentals
- b. Bottles to fill with sanitizer from the Health Centre
- c. Bleach and other cleaning supplies such as sanitizing wipes
- d. Cloth masks
- e. 3 Large signage each to remind participants of 1. Social Distancing, 2. Washing & Sanitizing Hands, 3. Signs of COVID-19
10) Funeral Guidelines: We understand these timelines make it impossible for our members to attend gatherings such as funerals, but these decisions are based on overall safety of the community.
For members who reside outside of Manitoba, each off-reserve members is required to isolate for 14 days according to Manitoba guidelines, prior to being approved for access into Peguis First Nation.
Daily temperature checks are mandatory for 4 days upon entering the community, this includes all children. Temperature checks are done from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm daily at the Community Hall.
Any member not following guidelines will have access privileges revoked.
11) Off-Reserve Membership Access: Off-reserve members HAVE ACCESS into Peguis First Nation ONLY at the Highway #224 Check Point. Community access is strictly for Peguis First Nation Reserve 1B area.
Off-reserve members entering the community will be under strict guidelines during visits. Curfew at Check Points is in effect from 12:00 a.m. – 6:00 a.m., daily.
For off-reserve member access:
a) First, request access by calling the Peguis COVID-19 Hotline at (204) 645-2869 or (204) 645-4738.
b) You must declare the residence you are visiting and how long you will be staying in the community. Members are restricted to visiting/staying in one residence and not travelling around community.
c) You will be screened when entering/exiting Check Points.
d) No visiting with other families or households in the community is allowed.
e) No stopping or shopping at stores including, fuel and groceries.
f) Temperature checks will be done for 4 days for off-reserve members visiting the community for an extended visit.
g) Any member not following guidelines will be escorted out of community and possibly have access privileges revoked.
h) Anyone found experiencing symptoms will be asked to take a COVID-19 test (24-48 hour) in Selkirk, MB. A second COVID-19 test with negative results are required to ensure results are negative. Members must provide proof of negative results, prior to being approved for access.
i) In the case of a positive COVID-19 case in community or an increase of cases in Manitoba, off-reserve membership access will be revoked as a safety measure.
For off-reserve members residing outside Manitoba, each individual will be required to take a COVID-19 test (24-48 hour) in Selkirk, MB. A second COVID-19 test with negative results are required to ensure results are negative. Members must provide proof of negative results, prior to being approved for access.
Peguis Health and the Peguis COVID-19 Pandemic Team remind all members to be safe and practice social distancing to ensure the safety for all of our members.
Note: In the case of an increase of COVID-19 cases within Manitoba, Peguis First Nation will immediately revert back to Phase 1 of COVID-19 safety measures.
